On the Seventh Day

January 31, 2010.  Sunday.
Situation.  Work all day today, don’t get home until dark.  No walk for Mway from me today.  (Jazz and Matt had come up Saturday night with Atlas, to have him neutered this morning by Lenny, but Matt took him home before I got back.  No walk for Atlas either.)

M, just one more: Virginia Woolf? And I’m thinking in particular of her novel Flush, the “biography” of Elizabeth Barret Browning’s cocker spaniel.

Virginia Woolf – Mrs. Dally-Around. I’m not familiar with the novel you mention. Must be on a high shelf or up in your attic. But the esteemed Mrs. Woolf denigrated Ulysses as “underbred,” “the book of a self taught working man.” She dismissed Joyce as “a queasy undergraduate scratching his pimples.” Thems fighting words. I can’t abide anybody who’d say that. M.

I’m almost glad to hear that Atlas met the monster. I only hope he learned something from the encounter. M.

Crowds have been growing in Cairo's Tahrir Square and in other cities, with many shouting slogans and waving placards calling for Hosni Mubarak's downfall.

Protesters are determined not to give up, but the 82-year-old president shows no sign of releasing his grip on power.

Far greater numbers are expected to hit the streets tomorrow for a mass rally billed as the "protest of the millions".
